You probably will never think about it until it happens… but when it does, you don’t want find yourself saying, “I wish I had insured that.”

How many assets do you have that are high value, either monetarily or sentimentally? Most likely, your home insurance doesn’t cover those things. Don’t be stuck in could-of-would-of-should-of. Make sure to insure the things that matter most!
Jewelry. Most policies limit below the value of expensive jewelry. Have your valuables appraised and consider purchasing a separate policy to cover those pieces.
Artwork, They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but it may have in fact cost you even more in dollars. Consider a supplemental policy to insure your artwork, if your homeowner policy doesn’t cover it.
Tools. If you are a mechanic or works in a trade with special tools, you know how expensive those can be. If they stay at your work, make sure your business has a policy in place to insure them if something happens. If you keep them at home, consider purchasing a policy to keep them safe.
Pets. There is no dollar value that can be placed on man’s best friend. No one wants to think about a pet getting sick, but you can have an insurance plan in place to include pet health as well as pet-related liability.
Electronics. How many iPads, computers, stereos, and other electronic devices do you have laying around your home? Consider a policy that would cover these items should they be lost or stolen.

The beauty of insurance is the security and peace of mind it brings. Rest easy knowing you have insurance policies on all the things you love…ask you agent today about how you can get started adding these often-overlooked items to your insurance plan!

Texting and driving is a serious issue that is needlessly taking lives, yet it’s not uncommon to see a fellow driver sneaking a peak at their phones. And it’s very tempting to send a quick text at a red light as well, but too often those conversations continue once the light turns green.

However even in a day and age where connecting socially can be instantaneous from anywhere and can seem incredibly important, it’s never more important than your safety. Take a look at some facts from StopTextsStopWrecks.org:

• 5 seconds: average time eyes are off the road for a text. At 55 mph, that’s the length of a football field.
• 77% of young adult drivers are very or somewhat confident they can safely text while driving.
• A texting driver is 23 times more likely to get in a crash than a non-texting driver.

No matter how handy you think you are with a cell phone, texting and driving is never a good idea, and putting the phone down until you’re parked is an easy way to make sure you aren’t endangering yourself or other drivers.

Who Needs Flood Insurance?

The threat is real and flood insurance should be a consideration for all homeowners regardless of where you live. Remember, “low risk” does not mean “no risk”–almost 25 percent of all flood insurance claims come from areas with minimal flood risk. The average flood claim payment is $33,000. The federal government requires mortgaged properties in Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA) to be insured against flooding. And the rates are set by the government, so they are the same regardless of the carrier you choose.

Thanksgiving is upon us. One thing we are thankful for: getting to spend time with our families and eat a lot great food. One thing we aren’t thankful for: holiday travel better known as bumper-to-bumper traffic.

According to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, 91% of holiday travel between Thanksgiving and New Years is by car. And the busiest days of all? The Wednesday before Thanksgiving through that Sunday.

So if you are among one of the many who will be traveling this holiday, follow some of our tips to make your trip one full of blessings.

Plan ahead. If possible, plan on leaving Tuesday night or even first thing Thursday morning to avoid the crazy Wednesday rush.
Do a home check. Before leaving, make sure everything is turned off or unplugged in your home, and you have locked everything up. Keep curtains closed so people can’t look in, and consider asking a trusted neighbor to keep an eye out for you.
Don’t Spread the Word. With the popularity of social media, people freely put information on the web. Making posts about being out of town for a couple days is asking for trouble. So as excited as you are and as much as you want to brag, keep it on the down low.
Tip off the police. You can, however, inform your local police department that you’ll be leaving the area and ask them to do drive-bys if they are in your area.
Hide the Spare Key. Your hiding place under the doormat is not that great. Remove your outdoor spare keys or leave them with a relative or trusted friend.
Thanksgiving is a time to be with family, watch football, overstuff yourself with delicious foods, and count blessings. Keep your mind at ease knowing your home is safe.

Happy Thanksgiving from A&C Insurance Insurance!
